Octopus exhibited at the NMEA Expo, Annapolis Sailboat Show and IBEX. Below is a short overview of the shows attended.

The NMEA Expo was once again held at the Sanibel Resort in Fort Myers, Florida. The show was well attended by east coast dealers, unfortunately, there was noticeably less dealers from other parts of the country. This is understandable as many dealers have a tight budget due to our current economic situation.

Many dealers had a chance to look at the working model of our Type R Sterndrive System and were all amazed on how simple it was to install.

To everyone's surprise, David Hayden, NMEA President submitted his resignation during the show. We thank him for the job he has done the past few years. Bruce Angus formerly with Geonav will be his interim replacement.

The proposed venue for next year's event is Orlando, Florida. From what we hear, it is going to be in close vicinity to Disneyland. So come visit the NMEA Expo and tag on a couple of vacation days.

Annapolis US Sailboat Show

The US Sailboat show was well attended once again with over 50,000 visitors from all over the world at the event. Octopus sailboat drives were front and center at the booth and it was very nice too see the public's reaction to our working drive units. The show helped promote brand recognition as the Octopus brand is still relatively unknown to many people.

The big draw at the show was the Octopus RS Sailboat drive for light displacement yachts up to 15,800 lbs or 38 feet. The drive was of interest as it now gives smaller sailboats a below deck option when installing an autopilot drive. Special thanks to Allen at Si-Tex Marine Electronics for providing our booth an SP110 autopilot which we had connected to the RS drive. Having the drive, compass and display as a working model gave the visitors to the booth more understanding on how an autopilot steers the boat.

IBEX

At IBEX Octopus was exhibited together with her sister products - Martyr Anodes and CMP Marine Chain. The main theme promoted by Octopus at the show is "Unique Boat Builder Solutions".

The Type R Sterndrive System was the main attraction at the show.   For most boat builders the Type R System is simply the easiest solution to adding an autopilot to a cable steered sterndrive boat. Representatives from Garmin, Navico and Mercury Marine visited the booth examining the system and the drive unit.
